Values of trade

Post by Thelepearchauns » 06 Jun 2012, 23:37

There have been a lot of issues with negotiating trade and people not knowing what things are worth. So I went out and did some math based on how often things occur per chunk in the minecraft world.

1 Diamond is worth:
2 Gold
7 Lapis Dye
28 Iron
34 Redstone
3.7 STACKS of Dirt(234)
89 STACKS of cobble(5700)

Im going to continue figuring out prices until I have a full google doc of ALL trade values

So its a sword that acts like a key in very specific situations
Or its a key all the time...and when you stick it in someone, it unlocks their death

This isn't this simple, for exaple with things like lapis and redstone, you get multiple drops. You also have to factor in fortune and also the difficulty of getting to ores at lower levels compared to iron/coal.

In going with this, you'd have to run an awful lot of statistics in order to account for the fortune aspect. Example: if you have a population of 100 miners and, say, Fortune III has a 2% chance, then we can expect 2 miners to get said enchant. This means they can expect higher drop rates, and so on for lesser enchants. This would require you to find a mean drop rate for a block based on this distribution, and then apply it to the average number of blocks found per chunk. And of course blocks such as iron and gold ores aren't affected (to my knowledge) by fortune enchants.

An item is only as valuable as what somebody will pay. Tools like furds have a use, but there is no set price. The only price that is set on this server is 5 gold to 1 diamond for staff related trading. That is cuboids and the like. Feel free to charge what you like, if people are willing to pay it.
