Fortune picks are a difficult item to price. On the one hand they aren't that rare/difficult to obtain, at least not for anyone with access to a good mob grinder. 3 diamonds, some time spent grinding exp, and some luck only justify so much of a mark up. On the other hand a fortune III, unbreaking III diamond pick, if used exclusively on diamond ore and in the hands of a cautious miner, will over it's lifetime gain the owner some 4000-4500 diamonds over what they would have obtained via an unenchanted pick. And what's a few diamond blocks in advance when set against that?
(Of course most picks end up in lava long before mining that much diamond)

You also need to find that many diamonds to mine. Going to be a lot of other rocks you need to mine in between.

I said exactly that to him, I have no clue what person in their abseloute right mind would want to buy a pickaxe of that enchant for a price as expensive as that.
