It's old but gold. If it could help you out we've probably chucked it in here.

Terra - reformed

Post by wokka1 » 06 Jul 2011, 15:10

Ok, so many of you know that we went a little nuts with the radius in Ver3 (Terra), and it has caused issues for us, due to the size of the map. It is currently at 905 meg, largest of our maps.

I want to cut this down from 3500 radius to a 2500 radius, heavily editting the map, and cleaning it up, we'll also set it to be square on the border.

What I'm offering for this is a free cuboid move of something built past 2500 radius, we'll place it somewhere else on ver3, on fyra, or wherever you want, within reason. We will also include a free cuboid protection for it at its final location. To check your coords, type /getpos into chat, look at the first number and the 3rd number, the 2nd one is your elevation, doesn't matter for this project. As an example, I'm at (693.5938, 75.0000, -122.9063), we don't need anything past the decimals, so just report 693, 122.

Please reply to this thread with coords of anything you want to keep, and if you have an idea of where you want to move it, post the world name and coords. An OP or admin will contact you about the move, or move it mark it on here. IC has already been signed up for this, we have a special place for it, soon it will be much easier to get to.

I don't have a date as to when the world edits will happen, but hopefully I can lock the world and do them while online, if not, we may have to take an extended maintenance to do this.

Your help will be appreciated, but this will greatly help our save times and make this a better server.

Hit me with any questions you have in here.

=== Update ===

The tentative date for this will be July 30th. I may bump this up by a few days, but not sure. I'm on vacation from the 16th until the 24th.

The day that I do the moves, I will lock ver3 to any changes. meaning that you can still move around in the world, but you will not be able to make changes. People will cuboids would still be able to, however, if they make any changes, it will revert back when I copy in the edited map. We will broadcast messages during this time to make sure everyone sees it in game.

I'm sure it will take me several hours to complete the edits and then test. Its either lock ver3 or have the server down for several hours one day, which I'd rather not do.

I've moved some people's houses, etc as they asked. The bigger projects won't be moved until the day of.

2nd Update

I know there will be people who didn't see this thread, and will login and be unable to get to their house. If that's the case, send me a PM (will get my attention faster) and hopefully you can either tell me coords, or let me know if your old /home was there, so that I can find it on a backup and move it for you.
hit me with any questions you have.

Well... my island at 1592 X, -2420 Z is something I'd like to keep. It's rather large, though. I don't need cuboid protection if it needs to be moved.

hey wokka, you're gonna hate me for the size of this, but my place on terra is centered on x-162, z3043. it is clearly visible on the terra map as a large grass circle and a larger most of a grass circle, I also have a mob tower just west of that. I don't really mind where it gets moved to as long as it's out of the way with room to expand, although fyra would be preferable. It's so large because I was hoping to turn it into a town. If it is too large to be moved could we try and work something else out? I realize my work and diamonds digging a subway out that far will be wasted, but i would rather not lose what i have spent almost my entire time on the server doing

Not a problem Boot, I'll move any size within reason. I won't move mines, but why would you want those moved?

Your's isn't bad, i'm assuming it ends at the circle of grass around it? Find me a location where you want it moved, otherwise we can play hide and seek with your nice building...

My town is located at 3085, -270. There's already a cuboid in place around it, though it goes all the way to bedrock and I only wish to move anything from the base of the walls upward. I will edit this with a suitable destination when I find one. Also, I would like the giant "BORDERPOST" sign moved in a separate cuboid.

I'll help however I can to reconnect anyone that is moved, including any copy/pasting of railways if needed.

I know this won't be pleasant, but we learn from our mistakes, correct them, then move on.

There really is no alternative without spending a lot more money on the server, which I would rather not do at this point.

Okay everybody, I need your help. I need to move Atlanis, that means that I need a lake with a free water area of at least 210x210 blocks.
Solved: Atlanis magically copied itself to the lake near wokkas world.

Thats a good point nart, luckily I caught you when you did a /home

For anyone else, if your town gets moved out from under you, ask for a mods help to get to the new location, of course you'll need coords, so people will need to post new locations in this thread.

I assume the Hourglass will be moved? :o If not, I'd like to request that it is saved (along with that little treehouse next to it, that's cool).

I'm pretty sure the hourglass is safe. It existed before the expansion to 3000 radius.

I'll move what you request, so if you want down to bedrock, i'll move that.

So, just to clarify, is the new border farther out than the old one (Before we supersized for lapis)?

I believe it's 500 blocks or so less. Although Wokka did say the border would be square this time, which puts the corners at just about 3500 blocks from 0,0.

It does go past -2500, I do believe. Might want to survey the area and see if it needs to be moved.

hey wokka, i think i found an ok place for my stuff, centered on fyrax424 z -627, just out to the first ring including the obsidian bit, don't worry about the second ring,i'm pretty sure no one has anything in range, not sure about underground though, and then could the mob tower be placed east on that so its kind of in the mountain? thanks -bootstrap
ps: i really hope you're right about items in chest being copied as well

Don't worry, I moved my entire city and all my diamond blocks were safe in their chests, right where I left them.

As far as I could get it and still be in a reasonable spot. It's around 2400, -100 but at the moment there's no way inside. I might have to add (GASP!) gates!

By all means, but NOT YET. I need to do some heavy-duty integration in order to fix the mistakes Wokka made with the cuboid dimensions.

Good news for Borderpost!

I checked the tower I built a long time ago, and the subway that used to go to old Borderpost. Both lie within a safe area from the new border (2065 79 -686). The subway to the new Borderpost only requires the digging out of less than 100 blocks (from 2400 12 -200). This will make it easier for ryn for the expansion of lefthit's tunnel to Borderpost (instead of 1400 blocks he has to work with, he now only has 400!).

Kestle, the land next to my old landclaim, also appears to be safe. :)

Mistake? You told me what to move, base of the wall to sky, i expanded by 2 to include your sign and the edges of the top of your wall...
