I remeber Notch once wanted to add a night called "zombie siege" where zombies would have the power to destroy blocks, head to the player with a huge search radius instead of the normal 16, and have only zombies spawn. This must be his substitution.

Also, its a good thing I had desings for a craftbook invention that could catch mobs!

Maybe Notch thought singleplayer players should experience griefing.

That tree to the right is actually a giant mushroom, like in the pic of the npc village that got posted.
