Lets get NSA discussing

Post by Wildwill002 » 03 Aug 2013, 20:04

So, recently that edward snowden blokes been allowed to stay in Russia for a year

For those that don't know, Snowden is the whistleblower on the american government using a programme called prism to basically monitor calls etc which has naturally brought unrest to the public

What are your thoughts on Eddie? Are you annoyed that he hasn't been caught for being a "Traitor" or happy he's getting away and see him as a "Hero"?

Irrelevant note: he left behind a pole dancing girlfriend in hawaii!

Probably, but I doubt it's as bad as the extent PRISM's gone to.

how are we supposed to spy on other people anyways, all we have is igloos and maple syrup

I don't see how he is a traitor, he told the public about something the government shouldn't have been doing.
IMO why should Snowden be punished when there won't be any punishment for the government's actions?

He's doing something beneficial for the people in the country he lives in by telling the truth, so I share random's opinion in the sense that it'd illogical to call someone a traitor who's telling you things for your own good.

In fact, I think that's the common shared opinion for just about everyone apart from government officials and otherwise strange people that would enjoy having info about PRISM kept confidential.

Effectively the same thing I said over at The Escapist on Bradley Manning:

Personally I think he did a largely good thing. Whilst I do think governments should be more transparent, I don't think they should be totally. There are certainly some unsavoury things that came to light that people should be aware of, but there's still a need for clandestine operations and I don't think compromising them in the name of freedom of information is wise.

After all, the government should be serving its citizens and should be held accountable by them, I don't believe they have the right to hide some things that they do from the populace.
