Update #7
Frederick Joseph, Captain Williams, Gunter and seven other men were hiding behind the gates, waiting for the enemy to reach the moat before rushing out.
Up above, the defenders shot arrows or crossbow bolts at the twenty samurai, killing four before they reached the moat and the soldiers rushed out of the gates.
Frederick Joseph stabbed one man in the stomach then punched him in the face, before ducking under a high thrust. Captain Williams skewered a soldier, and pulling his blade out he smashed another in the face with his pommel. Gunter punched one man in the stomach before taking out an axe and smashing his head into two equal pieces.
As the fighting below became frenzied, many of the archers and crossbowmen dropped their weapons, brandished their melee ones, and jumped down to join in the fight.
There were now only seven samurai left, and, valuing their lives more than the honour of dying to the thirty or so enemies, they fled the battle.
Frederick König threw one of his new throwing daggers into the back of one, then another into the man's neck. Uthag gripped his new mace with both hands and, rather unconventionally, threw it over his head and smashed a fleeing man to the ground.
By the end of the battle, there were three casualties, and Captain Williams had a deep sword wound to his stomach. As the pilgrims flocked around him, he called Frederick König to his side.
"Frederick..." he said, gasping for breath, "you are the only person here who I really knew, and..." he stopped, and fell back, moaning in pain. "Frederick, I want you to be the leader of this village. Defend us from these monsters, and bring glory to us all..." His eyes shut one last time, his chest moved up one last time, and died.
The funeral was a modest thing. The bodies were put in a makeshift raft and send out with the tide, burning.
In the face of all the carnage, Frederick König remained calm. "We must decode all of these messages," he said to Myles. "With haste, lest they come again. If we can decode them, we can write a response and maybe even put an end to this bloodshed."
There are now 45 pilgrims.
Decisions for all Pilgrims except Myles Luttrel
1: Gather food from known sources
2: Build some buildings (Specify what you want to build)
3: Flee (You will be disassociated from the pilgrims and will be an enemy. This will be a choice in all decisions from here on)
Decisions for Natives
1: Socialize with the other mercenaries
2: Request to see the battle reports
3: Train for combat
4: Other, specify in post and I will say if you can or not.
From here onwards, players can die!

Gather food.
Also for the combat, is everything arbitrary based on what you think will work story-wise, or is there an actual system determining things behind the scenes?

It's mostly arbitrary. I use your stats to determine what you do in combat.Jake55778 wrote:Gather food.

ill build a hall of residence (Enough space for half the pilgrims population), and for my native character i shall socialise
Re: New Lands (Ooh, an RPG) We're full!
Update #8
Frederick König coordinated the activities of all of the pilgrims, and got quite a lot done.
One residence was finished, the walls were repaired and part of the wall near the gates was built up to form a small fortress inside the entrance to the village.
The storehouse started to overflow with food, so a feast was held that night and a calendar was put up in the town hall, counting down the days until the next pilgrim ship arrived. (40 days from this one)
Myles Luttrel worked late into the night trying to decode the three messages. (Two letters, one message)
Letter 2:
Message in Clearing:
The mercenaries were busy for the entire morning. Near to 300 had shown up, and the first part of the day was a tournament to find the thirty best. After the tournament, all of the mercenaries went about their own business. Aiten Javenkis socialized with some of the other top thirty soldiers while The Shadow was seen heading towards the forest. The Old Man went up to Lord Entreri and asked for the battle reports.
The samurai who had fled the battle the night before were dishonourably discharged from duty.
It is now a new day. (39 days to new ship)
Decisions for Pilgrims
1: Build (Say what you want to build)
2: Gather food
3: Gather wood
4: Flee (This will disassociate you from the group and you will be an enemy to the pilgrims)
Decisions for Natives
1: Socialize with the other mercenaries
2: Strategize with Lord Entreri and other mercenaries
3: Train for combat
4: Other, specify in post and I will say if you cannot

I hope you don't mind, but I went and drew up a quick character portrait for Uthag. I may attempt some other characters, but no promises.

Awesome!
Also, this will help me envision Uthag. I had pictured him as wearing far more fur than that.

Strategize.
Re: New Lands (Ooh, an RPG) We're full!
Strategize, and awesome drawing! I'm ok at drawing, but nothing close to that.

As a new ship would be arriving within a set period of time i better extend the storehouse.
And my native will strategize.

Update #9
The storehouse was extended, more wood was gathered, and work continued on the fortress.
Lord Entreri held a strategizing session with some of his mercenaries, comparing maps, battle reports and his own accounts of their fighting skills.
Decisions for Pilgrims
1: Build (Say what you want to build)
2: Gather food
3: Gather wood
4: Write a message in response to the one in the clearing and place it somewhere for the natives to find (Requires Myles Luttrel's participation in this activity)
5: Flee (This will disassociate you from the group and you will be an enemy to the pilgrims)
Decisions for Natives
1: Socialize with the other mercenaries
2: Scout out the area near the pilgrims' camp
3: Train for combat

Collect more wood

Re: New Lands (Ooh, an RPG) We're full!
Update #10 36 days until ship arrives (Ooh, I skipped some days!)
Myles Luttrel, accompanied by Frederick König, placed the message in the clearing, hoping that the natives would find it.
Another residence was built and the fortress was expanded even more.
Some of the mercenaries began sparring against each other to prepare for combat, while others talked amongst each other. Some went out to inspect their foes' defences.
One of them, The Shadow, found a message in the clearing where it was said a battle took place. He walked up to it and read it.
Aiten Javenkis observed the pilgrims' camp, seeing non-stop construction and was almost spotted by a large brute wearing dead animals and carrying a large fallen log, but managed to get out of view, preventing the brute from finding him.
Both pilgrims and natives must PM me their decisions
Decisions for Pilgrims
1: Work on the fortress
2: Establish a mine in the side of a nearby hill
3: Head to the clearing to see if the natives left a message.
Decisions for Natives
1: Request that Lord Entreri let the attack commence
2: Request that Lord Entreri leave a message in the clearing (Whichever of these two is chosen by the majority will be what you all do - specify if you will go with Lord Entreri if you choose the second option)
