The VG music thread (Read the rules!)

Post by Sadrack » 05 Apr 2011, 17:49

As a fan of videogame music, it makes my heart bleed to find no such topic here. But to make things interesting, let's stick a few rules to it, otherwise everyone will just post a ton of links that no one else will listen to.(I know, it's happened before  ) We'll turn this into some kind of 'game' but not quite.

Rule 1: You may only post one song per post, with a link to it in some shape or form. (youtube works)
Rule 2: Before you post your own song, you must rate the last poster's song X/10 and a small comment
Rule 3: The music must have actually been 'made' for the game, so Rock band, Guitar Hero and company are out. Though remixes of actual game songs are allowed.
Rule 4: This goes without saying, but if you don't like videogame music, don't bother posting here, that's just silly.

I'll start, and since I have no poster above me (obviously) I'll just post a song.

8/10 - picked up for me after the beginning. The start of a song is often what makes or breaks it for me. I should learn to be less impatient, but ah well.

This is a metalled-up version of Holy Orders from the Guilty Gear series (which I haven't played). I played the original version of this song in my latest Shindig - both versions are pretty good at any rate.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game

7/10 Personal favorite, not best song from album

Leave the Past Behind - Anamanaguchi

more than recommend checking out the rest f the album (which I proudly own) and other Anamanaguchi productions.

These dudes are awesome live.

I'll just go ahead and hop in again for now.

7/10 has a pretty good 'retro' feeling to it, for some reason seems to mix old with new, very 'Atari' sounding but also modern at the same time. Can't say I've played Scott Pilgrim yet though. =X

Optional boss theme from the recent indie release 'Cthulhu saves the world' in which you play as everyone's favorite eldritch abomination.

Cthulhu saves the world? What the hell is- OH GOD I NEED THIS GAME

7/10. Not exactly what I'd call memorable, but nevertheless an epic battle tune.

Without doubt my most favourite music ever experienced in video games. I used the musical score of Bioshock in a presentation once to set an example of how important music is for immersion in video games.

9/10
That was probably one of the best songs on the FFIX Soundtrack.

My contribution: Megalith ~Agnus Dei~ from Ace Combat 04.

This one was the song for the final mission in that game. The Ace Combat series has always had strong soundtracks, but this particular track is among my three favorites from the series (the other two being "Zero" from Ace Combat Zero, and "The Unsung War" from Ace Combat 5).

9/10 Lots of 'epic' chanting, pretty good music to back it up too.

A very emotionally charged theme from Deadly Premonition. Everytime I hear this song, I feel nostalgic about the game, Deadly Premonition was amazing and it was one of those games that made you feel personally invested in it's storyline and characters. The only 'bad' aspect of the game were the shootings sections, but the entirety of the rest of the game was a masterpiece.

A nice kind of ambient track you have there.

This is a dangerous topic for me though...

One of my favorite battle themes from any video game, and definitely one that deserves some exposure.

I'm guessing it's ok to have more then one favourite.

3/10

I'm not a fan of that kind of music, it's really a question of taste in my regard.

Say what you will about the game, the soundtrack kicked ass.

Hehe, alrighty. Continuing on with the FF vibe further, I bring you 'Otherworld' from the blitzball soundtrack. It isn't for everyone, I'll give it a 7/10

Watch the video. I can't stress that, its bloody epic.

Man, I loved that tune. 10/10. I was so glad they made it Jecht's battle theme.

My YouTube list is filled with video game music. :D Here's my entry from one of the best games ever, Earthbound (Mother 2):

9/10 definitely a good version of a memorable theme from Earthbound. Kind of crazy at times, but still good.

And while we're posting fan versions of songs done with awesome instruments...

This is actually 3 different songs, second one starts near the two minute mark and third at 4 minutes.

1/10 for it being alliance music ;), Nah realistically it gets a 9/10 just because of how awesome it is :)

Because I actually love this game to bits :) and the music is pretty damn ace, still gives me shivers to this day. I want this game again dammit

Uhm... 6/10? I know it's creepy and probably very atmospheric if you're playing the game, but sitting here on my sofa, I just found it a bit dull.

10/10 :D By a slim margin my favourite of all the Elder Scrolls themes, and by a wide margin my favourite theme posted so far in this thread.

I can't believe nobody's posted anything from Halo yet. Say what you want about the games, they have a kickass soundtrack. (I'll avoid being as cliche as posting the main theme, no doubt you've already heard it)

Haven't heard that one in a while - always did enjoy the soundtrack for the Halo games.

Here's one from a very good game. It's reminded me of another game with an epic soundtrack, but I suppose I'll have to wait.

D: Someone should have told me there was a topic like this!

8/10

At first, it was alright. When the guitar riff started, it seemed a bit to sudden a change, but when the flute mixed in and everything, I really enjoyed it.

And to think, I was so close to being the first to post a Halo song.

Well, the Halo Soundtrack is pretty easily my favourite gaming soundtrack, but I have more up my sleeve! :D

Edit: I never really liked the COD games, but the Modern Warfare 2 Soundtrack is pretty good... Yay for Hans Zimmers!

Double Edit: The video isn't appearing... I fear I did something wrong... Don't kill me Tomenaki!

7/10 It's a little overblown, like just about everything in call of duty, but it's a pretty good piece of music. You only need to copy the last part of the youtube url to get it to work
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v= NcghLSIpZlM

I also really like the music in the original announcement trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7d5XheWiBk but unfortunately that one never made it into the finished game.
