Fantasy RPG test
Re: Fantasy RPG test
The one on the right is already dead, I'll assume you meant the one on the left.
Turn 4 (Ally 3/3)
Movements: Darktaint moves 1 space back and 1 square to the left.
Attacks: Darktaint attacks the last remaining orc for minimum damage and kills it.
Feats: Iron_Fang uses a fire arrow against the nearest orc. It scores normal damage and ignites the target. The orc survives the arrow wound but dies from the flames. Iron_Fang is now down to 40 stamina.
Vallorn the OP mage uses Ice Rain, damaging 3 orcs and Darktaint. 2 of the orcs are killed. Vallorn is now down to 15 mana. (Attempting to cast spells while out of mana/stamina will result in a desperation feat in which half the cost of the spell wil be taken from the user's hp, the spell also has a chance of failing.)
All enemies defeated
Victory!

Well if we were doing this for real you'd get 10 points to assign to your base stats as you see fit. You'd also get to pick a new feat from a list, or choose to upgrade an existing one. And of course all these orcs would have dropped some loot.
Please give feedback on this
Both in the general sense of whether or not you enjoyed it, and in more detail with regards to balance and difficulty (yes the mage needs to be nerfed).
I have grand ambitions for this, but it's a lot of work involved. There's no point in me taking it further unless people actually want to play it.

Re: Fantasy RPG test
I'm still working on this, but it's turning out to be a lot more work than I'd anticipated. It may be a while.
I could really use a hand in the story department though. I'm not much of a writer and I know we have some talented ones on the site. Please contact me if it's something you might be interested in helping with.

Re: Fantasy RPG test
I've finished the feat upgrade trees for each character. You can now start to plan out how to upgrade your avatar if you like.
*note*
The reason the mage has so many more feat options than the other classes is because he's completely dependant on them as his only real mean of attack. Both the Warrior and the Rogue will also gain access to better weapons and gear throughout the quest, very few of which will be usable by a mage.

Re: Fantasy RPG test
You start with all the level 1 feats by default. You pick a new feat at the end of each level for a total of 22-23 at lvl 18.
Alternatively you can forego a new feat and instead select an option called "additional training" which grants you a bonus level up instead. It basically means you reach level 18 faster, but will have fewer feats available when you get there.
Here's a preview of some of the high end spells I've been working on:

Those spells are epic! :O
Re: Fantasy RPG test
Just an update to let people know that I'm still working on this, mostly art assets at this moment. Once I have all the enemy designs sorted and have finalised the mechanics, I'll start assembling it all into a proper campaign.
My other motive in posting is to ask for some more feedback. This time on the subject of group size. How many players should be allowed to participate at once? I'm hoping for the campaign to be quite lengthly, so too few slots means people who miss out on the first run will have to wait quite a while for a turn. Too many however means individual player phases drag on if players aren't all online. It also raises the issue of do I develop more player classes to allow everyone to be unique, or simply have color swapped duplicates of the 3 existing classes? Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Re: Fantasy RPG test

Re: Fantasy RPG test
True, but there's also the issue of balance. There does need to be a player limit, I'm just not sure what it should be. 3 seems kinda restrictive.

Re: Fantasy RPG test
I would have to say something between 6-8 players.
I've been apart of some online chat rps where the group meets up each week to play D&D and this has always been the number of players I have seen used. (At least in my experience)

Re: Fantasy RPG test
6 sounds good, with a limit of 3 of any one class (Too many mages and the AoE gets out of hand).
By the way I've finished the sprites for a bunch more enemies and spells, would you guys prefer me to share that kind of stuff so you can see how thing are progressing? Or would you rather I held everything back for when we actually start? (At this point there's no storyline to spoil. It would just be illustrations)

Re: Fantasy RPG test
How many enemy types do you think I need for 18 missions? So far I have 13 (plus there'll be bosses hopefully)
